Second International Conference: Process Management and the Effective Organization - Sofia

On 14 and 15 October 2008 in Sofia took place the second international conference "Process Management and the Effective Organization. Strategy and Practice”. The event, which was dedicated to the process-based management, was held by Interconsult Bulgaria Ltd. (ICB), a partner of IDS Scheer since 1999 with a lot of experience in the field.

Representatives of popular Bulgarian companies and government organizations like Mtel, Prista Oil, Kozloduy NPP, Cash Services Company, The Railway Administration Executive Agency, The Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy and SAP Bulgaria  shared their experience in using business processes and the latest tools for business process management (BPM) as a critical success factor for the effective management of their organization and the information technologies. 

The turbulent business environment, the constanly growing customer requirements and competition nowadays call for a change in the management model and a transformation of the organization into a live organism to make it more transparent and flexible, said Mr. Stoyan Boev, Managing director of ICB, at the conference opening. The use of a methodology and a software tool for BPM like ARIS makes things a lot easier.

The effective management of an organization depends on the clear definition of its mission, vision and strategy. The ability to measure the achievement of the objectives with the use of Balanced scorecard, the clear definition of each manager's responsibilities and their objective assessment is how this can be achieved, according to Mr. Daniel Kuzmanov, Manager Business development Europe in Prista Oil.

The transition of an organization from function-oriented to process-oriented is a way for a large organization to become effective and flexible, so that it can meet its customers' expectations. This was one of the topics that Mr. Svetoslav Martinov, manager of department "Processes" at Mtel, shared with the audience.

The clear definition of the organization's objectives and business processes is a critical factor for a successful ERP system implementation, according to the Executive manager of SAP Bulgaria Ltd., Mr. Peter Milenkov.

Ensuring the compliance of the organization's operations with standards, norms and regulations  in a n integrated database  is a particularly important topic for organizations whose operations are subject to a considerable number of audits from different controlling agencies and which manage a large amount of internal procedures and instructions. Anastas Hristev, manager of the IT department at NPP Kozloduy, Kostadin Gruev from Railway Administration Executive Agency and Antonia Stoyanova, nuclear reactor technology engineer at the Institute for nuclear research and nuclear energy shared their experience with the ARIS methodology.

Business consultants from IDS Scheer, the leading provider of BPM tools, representatives of Greek consulting companies and business consultants from ICB presented different approaches for integrated restructuring of organizations, process-based risk management and  integration of the IT architecture with  the business requirements  into a complete enterprise architecture.  Different means for analyses of the organization's operations, which could be carried out in real time as well as before the implementation of the processes were  presented. The trends in the development of process-based management in Bulgaria and  other European counttries  was another topic, discussed during the conference.
